Tea Trails

Ceylon Tea Trails comprises four colonial era tea planters’ bungalows set among lush Ceylon tea estates, infused with a new and decidedly gourmet vibe. Each villa, built between 1890 and 1939, offers a taste of gracious living thanks to butler service & authentic period furnishings, accompanied by gourmet meals. The four bungalows offer the upscale traveller both traditional and modern comforts in a “non-hotel” atmosphere. Rooms are available in three categories: Master Suites, Garden Suites and Luxury Rooms. Tradition is combined with modern amenities ranging from fireplaces to Victorian bathtubs to WIFI. Rooms look out to landscaped English gardens; many have their own private terraces. Each bungalow has a Manager, Chef, Butler and support staff to welcome guests as at a planter’s home. Meals are based on fresh produce, cooked to order and range from western fare to tea infused dishes and of course traditional Sri Lankan classics. If you decide on an expedition along the scenic, marked trails, our staff would be more than happy to pack a picnic basket to sustain you along the way. A typical English afternoon cream tea service is offered to fortify you ahead of the evening’s proceedings. The Tea Experience tour with the tea planter in residence is included in the rate. Here you can learn all about the wonders of Camellia Sinensis (the botanical name for tea), how it is grown and processed to make the famed Ceylon Tea.Scenic walking trails link the properties (which are from 5 to 15 km apart), offering views in all directions. Trekking along the Tea Trails takes you through the heart of the magic Ceylon tea country. A “Casual” walk of around four easy miles takes you from one bungalow to the other. Or take a tougher trail, marked “Intermediate” or “Adventurous”. Guides are available to accompany you and highlight points of interest.

The pristine Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, where Tea Trails is located, was recently designated a Natural World Heritage site. The Central Highlands comprise the Peak Wilderness, Horton Plains and the Knuckles mountain range. Tea Trails is located very near the Peak Wilderness and is the ideal base camp to climb its centerpiece, the holy Adam’s Peak mountain.
