There was apparently a shrine at Medirigiriya – which was developed to a major place of worship in the 7th century. The access to this Temple is by way of a granite flight of steps and a lofty archway. The most interesting feature of this is the stone screen wall, about one meters in height. It is ornamented with a post and rail design and the base is formed of a double lotus petal molding.
